Developed by an Australian, Tom Bowen, muscles are gently pulled across the grain, much like a guitar string, which then causes the muscle to relax. The advantages of Bowen Therapy are its gentleness, its long-lasting effects, and its safety when compared to high-velocity methods like Chiropractic. When I use Bowen Technique it is from the point of a view of an experienced Osteopath. I use Osteopathic diagnosis and see the technique as a way of correcting spinal and other joint misalignments.
Chiropractic & Osteopathy
Sometimes a firmer approach is required for treatment. With Chiropractic and Osteopathic manipulations, you get the traditional ‘cracking’ sound as gases are released from joints, thus allowing for greater range of motion. The accompanying massage also helps increase joint movement. I always prepare the body for adjustments with deep tissue massage. Sometimes I use an activator (small instrument) to adjust spinal and other joints.
As a fully registered Acupuncturist, I understand the Meridian and Chi systems of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I specialise in using Acupuncture in musculoskeletal conditions. Acupuncture needs are used to desensitise muscle trigger points and / or pressure points. Acupuncture used in this way partners well with adjustments and deep tissue massage.
